Who we are......by Kandi

Who we are...... by Kandi

It was my desire to have a coffee roasting business in Ligonier Valley for many years. I discovered a transportable roaster and knew that “now was the time”. My partner, Dave was crazy enough to agree to the idea and “so it began”. Our business was established in June, 2010

We ordered the roaster, made with all U.S.A. parts, from a small company out west, traveling nine days round trip to pick it up. It was quite the adventure--- as I’m sure the business will be too.

Our intention is to offer quality coffee that is fresh roasted. This makes all the difference in taste, as our increasing number of coffee “fans” can attest to. To maintain peak freshness, the beans are roasted after they are ordered.

Since our first event, Back to the Garden Market, “just down the road” from us, we’ve brewed and sold coffee at many festivals and markets. Along with purchasing direct from us….our coffee is sold at various other businesses from Rector to Pittsburgh with more in the works. A list is posted. Other businesses have expressed interest and we are receiving a lot of phone and e-mail orders. The positive response is very encouraging.

We hope that once you try our coffee you’ll taste the difference too and become a valued customer and friend as well!!

By Kerri-Ann Jennings, M.S., R.D., Associate Nutrition Editor at EatingWell Magazine I really like coffee. The morning ritual of brewing a cup, the smell that perks me up before I take a sip and, of course, the flavor all make it my favorite beverage…

Coffee....is good for you!!

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!!!
Here is an Irish Coffee recipe to round off a meal of:
Beef Stew in Stout with Herb Dumplings
Irish Soda Bread (of course)
Apple Cake (in  honor of St. Patrick himself planting an apple tree outside what is now Armagh city)
Irish Coffee
2 measures of Irish Whiskey
1 tsp sugar, or to taste
freshly made strong black coffee
2 measures heavy cream

  1. Put the whiskey into a warmed heatproof glass with sugar to taste.
  2.  Pour in the coffee and stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  3. Pour the cream very slowly over the back of a spoon that is just touching the top                                 of the coffee and edge of glass. Keep pouring until all the cream is added and settled on the top.
  4.  Do not stir! Drink the coffee through the cream

New coffee beans arrived and roasted!!!!

Dave roasted today for some orders. The Sumatra Mandheling and Sumatra Peaberry are both french roasted. The Brazilian is a lighter house roast this time. Dave wants to see if it brings out the different tastes of the blend better as Felipe (of Bobolink Farms/FAF) suggested. We have Columbian again, medium roasted and the ETHIOPIAN we have never tried. It was dropped at a lighter house roast to allow all the different tastes to reveal themselves too.  We can’t grind the beans for 48 hours and cannot wait to try the Ethiopian!
